Flames billow out of Winnipeg apartment near Grant Park Mall

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service battled an early morning blaze at 1305 Taylor Ave., near the Grant Park Mall Monday.


Winnipeg fire crews are on scene Monday morning battling a blaze in an apartment.

Flames were seen billowing out of a suite on the ninth floor of the building and fire fighters were called just after 7 a.m.

The apartment sits on 1305 Taylor Ave., near the Grant Park Mall.

Global News reporter Christian Aumell lives in the building and spent the morning in his car to keep warm after two floors were evacuated.

He told 680 CJOB that firefighters were quick to knock down the flames.

Three people were sent to hospital in stable condition, said fire officials at the scene. City officials said people will be able to return to their apartments once they’re done ventilating and mopping up the building.

There were no other injuries. The City of Winnipeg is asking people to avoid the area.
