One person killed in South Okanagan crash near Oliver

A fatal collision occurred around 9:45 a.m. Friday near Deadman’s Lake near Oliver, B.C.

The collision involved two vehicles on Highway 97 between Roads 20 and 22.

A passenger in one of the vehicles has died. That vehicle had three people in it at the time of the crash, all from Osoyoos. The passenger was a 24-year-old man.

The other two occupants were a 26-year-old woman and a 10-month-old infant.

The sole occupant of the other vehicle was a 62-year-old driver, also from Osoyoos.

The three-person vehicle sustained serious damage, trapping the passengers. The Oliver Fire Department extracted them from the wreckage.

The woman and infant were taken by ambulance to the South Okanagan General Hospital. The woman was then airlifted to Kelowna General Hospital. Both are said to be in stable condition.

Four emergency vehicles were on the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but winter road conditions are believed to be a contributing factor.

RCMP is asking drivers to take extreme caution with the increase of snow, road conditions can be treacherous.
