Woman in her 70s dies in Vancouver’s second pedestrian fatality of the year

Vancouver police are investigating a collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian on Tuesday morning.

Police say a woman in her 70s was crossing the street at East Hastings Street and Commercial Drive around 10:15 a.m. when she was struck by a red pickup truck.

Police say it appears the vehicle was travelling south on Commercial Drive and struck the victim as it turned east onto Hastings Street.

The 50-year-old driver remained at the scene and is co-operating with investigators.

The intersection was closed to traffic but has since re-opened.

This is Vancouver’s second pedestrian fatality of 2019. A 53-year-old woman was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Jan. 18 and later died of her injuries.
