Two dead in Hwy. 1 collision at Belle Plaine, Sask.

A man and a woman lost their lives in a collision that took place Saturday afternoon at the Belle Plaine, Sask. turnoff on Highway 1, approximately 40 kilometres west of Regina.

The incident happened early Saturday afternoon in the westbound lane of the highway. The vehicles involved were a truck pulling an empty horse trailer and another vehicle whose model was not specified by the RCMP.

The man and woman in the other vehicle were declared deceased at the scene. According to police, they were travelling eastbound prior to the crash.

Members of the White Butte RCMP, Moose Jaw Combined Traffic Services, EMS, and fire units from both Moose Jaw and Pense were on the scene until approximately 10 p.m. Saturday attending to the scene.

The collision is still under investigation. The RCMP noted that weather conditions were “not optimal”.
