Toronto police say a frightening incident caught on video appearing to show a man jumping on the hood of a moving car following an alleged hit-and-run demonstrates exactly how motorists should not behave.
A bystander who recorded the incident told Global News the altercation involving two male drivers took place around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday on Dundas Street between Sherbourne and Jarvis streets.
The witness said the altercation began after a white car struck a blue vehicle and tried to flee.
“He decided to take the actions on his own and chased him throughout the city and when he ended up at the corner he was at, he was able to pin him and he actually hit him a little bit there too,” Brian Hamlin, who caught the interaction on his phone, said.
The video appears to show the driver of the blue vehicle confronting the driver of the white vehicle and pulling him out of the car.
“The guy finally put the car in park and put his arms up in the air saying, ‘What are you doing?'” Hamlin said.
“And we had no idea at this point what was going on still. I was filming and that’s when he opened the door and he yells and says, ‘You hit my car’.”
As the driver of the blue vehicle walks away, the driver of the white vehicle appears to get back into the car and drive off.
At this point, the video appears to show the man jumping on the hood of the white car as it speeds away.
The video ends as the man appears to fall to the ground and walk away seemingly unharmed.
“I was telling him how fortunate he is cause he was in between the taxi and the car when he was dragged,” Hamlin said.
“The guy started dragging him into oncoming traffic. He’s very lucky that it turned out the way it did.”
Sgt. Brett Moore told Global News that road rage incidents happen all the time and that these two adults should have calmed down and filed a police report.
