MONTREAL – Montreal’s International Jazz Festival announced Monday that Canadian indie star Feist will open the 34th edition of the festival, performing at its major free outdoor concert.
Described as a “glittering star in the indie galaxy,” the singer-songwriter will perform in a show dubbed “Feist Under the Stars,” on Friday, June 28 at 9:30 pm on the TD Stage in the Place des Festivals, which has also showcased the talents of Stevie Wonder, Rufus Wainwright and Pat Metheny.
“We always want to surprise the festival goers with the main event, we want it to be a really special gift to them so we usually have many brainstorms during the fall season in order to get the right idea,” Caroline Johnson, the festival’s programming director told Global News.
“Artists are more and more open to play on the main stage free to the public because it is a real thrill to play in the heart of the city with more then 100,000 people watching you! The feeling is incomparable. It is only in Montreal that you can have such an event in such a peaceful atmosphere. Perfect for Feist!”
Perhaps known best by many for her cameo appearance on Sesame Street, Feist was propelled onto the international scene with hits like Mushaboom, Gate Keeper and 1234 and she has won 11 Juno Awards – including Artist of the Year in 2012.

Johnson noted that it was not the first time the festival tried to have Feist featured as a main event.
“But it is the first time it works out. Feist really wants to do this and it is a great deal for her to present her concert in front of all her Montreal fans! It’s something she has wanted to do for a long time.”
The full program of concerts and events for the 34th edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal will be unveiled on Tuesday, June 4. The festival runs from Friday, June 28 to Sunday, July 7, 2013.
