TORONTO – A Twitter account asking for re-tweets in order to collect donations for victims of the Boston Marathon explosions has been suspended after reports that the account was fake.
“For every retweet we receive we will donate $1.00 to the #BostonMarathon victims #PrayForBoston,” read the tweet sent by the Twitter account @_BostonMarathon.
The account has since been suspended after some Twitter users began warning those who were re-tweeting the message that the account was fake and not associated with the Boston Marathon.
A search for “Boston Marathon Scam” on Twitter revealed many users warning each other of the fraud accounts.
