Dartmouth man, 77, facing charges after allegedly barricading himself in apartment

A 77-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly barricading himself  in a Dartmouth apartment with a knife.

Police say at approximately 6:42 p.m. on Thursday, officers responded to 1 Alderney Drive in Dartmouth for a report of a male causing a disturbance.

When officers attempted to speak to the man at an apartment he refused to open the door and indicated he was armed with a knife.

Multiple officers, including crisis negotiators, attended the scene.

Police say at approximately 10:00 p.m., they took a man into custody.

Alvin Jacob Spjuth will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court Friday to face charges of uttering threats and breach of undertaking.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident.
