WINNIPEG – The man wanted in connection to a suspicious death in Winnipeg has been arrested in Saskatchewan.

The Regina Police Service issued a press release Sunday evening saying it had apprehended Christopher Mackenzie Campbell, 42, in downtown Regina late Sunday afternoon without incident. Regina Police said arrangements are now being made to transport Campbell back to Winnipeg so that he can deal with “criminal matters”.

Campbell, who has a history of mental illness according to Winnipeg Police, was identified as a suspect Saturday night in connection to a suspicious death investigation that began earlier in the day. At approximately 11:30 a.m., officers found a woman’s body in a home on Alexander Avenue. The Homicide Unit is investigating but police stopped short of calling the incident a ‘homicide’.

On Saturday, Winnipeg Police said a vehicle associated with Campbell and the victim was found a few kilometers outside of Regina. Before his arrest, a warning was issued to the public that Campbell had not recently been taking required medication and that members of the public should approach him with caution should they encounter him.

At the time, police said his behavior may be violent or unpredictable.

Investigators are not saying what connection, if any, Campbell has to the victim, nor are they releasing any information about the victim’s identity.

Neighbors told Global News an older couple lived in the Alexander home with their son.
