Police investigating pair of Victoria-area sex assaults

Police are investigating two sex assaults in the Victoria area early Saturday morning.

The first incident happened around 1 a.m. in the 800-block of Ellery Street.

Police said a man armed with a weapon entered a woman’s apartment and sexually assaulted her.

The woman was able to flee the suite and report the incident to the RCMP, who then contacted Victoria police.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

Police did not provide a description of the suspect, and are asking people in the area to be vigilant.

The second incident also took place around 1 a.m. Saturday morning nearby in Saanich.

According to Saanich police, the victim was accosted by a man near Rudd Park, but was able to scare the suspect off.

He’s described as about five-foot-eight in height and was riding a black bike.

Police in Saanich are also asking the public to be aware of their surroundings.

It’s not clear whether there is any link between the two assaults.

Anyone with information about the assaults is asked to contact the Victoria police at 250-995-7654 or Saanich police at 250-475-4321.
