One more sleep!

Day 3 of the Grey Cup was another eventful one. We were up bright and early for Rider practice, their last full workout of the season. I talked to some rookies about playing in the big game. Shomari Williams is actually going for the double; he won the Vanier Cup with Queens last year.  I didn’t have time for the story because the Als complaints about Rider favouritism was still the focus and MTL did little to diffuse the issue.

Here’s my take for what it’s worth. It’s nothing more than a ploy to deflect attention from the rest of the team and its working. The media, (including me) dove head first into the story. The plaintiffs Proulx and Boulay talked about it and no one else other than Calvillo was made available. They weren’t talking about the game. It’s an old trick to develop a ‘we vs. the world’ mentality to shift the focus away from the team. Gretzky did it at the Olympics in Salt Lake and it worked for him. Als coach Marc Trestman says that may be effective for the first minute but they have to play another 59.The Riders won’t be drawn in. Coach Miller says they’d stay in a broom closet for a chance to play in this game.

Ok enough about that. I hope to run that rookie story today on the Evening News at 6.

Also at practice yesterday Murray McCormick of the Leader Post was giving me the gears about my twittering and trying to use this blackberry. He took a pic and posted it on his twitter page. Hey it’s not easy joining the real world.

I did a guest shot on CJME’s Sportsnight show with Jamie Nye and Drew Remenda last night. I came on after Brad Wall. The Premier is a hard act to follow, he knows his football. So guess who walks right past our location. The Guess Who! Or more specifically the great guitarist with that band Randy Bachman who later fronted BTO and cranked out even more great standards. He has re united with long-time BTO partner Fred Turner and they will perform at halftime Sunday. I posted my sighting on twitter and Facebook and got the expected smartass comments about whether he was in a wheelchair or using a cane. Some have slammed the CFL and NFL for hiring the older acts. I say too bad. I’d still pay to see these guys even though they’ve moved into the Geritol set. Bachman is an icon; a Canadian music legend. Who has never heard ‘American Woman’ or ‘Takin’ Care of Business’? They’re timeless classics and nothing out there now can hold a candle to them. What do you want? Nickelback? Keep on rocking Randy!

Speaking of rocking, Riderville was a zoo last night!.it’s tough to get into, the line up is an hour, but it’s so much fun! It was sea of green in there with all kinds of great costumes and there was no trouble that I saw. Punter Eddie Johnson was in there and was a popular photo op, as was an attractive female police officer. She figured she must’ve had 100 pics taken of her by fans but she was ok with it. The officers here must shake their heads at what they see, but I think they enjoy watching all the fun.

Ok my thumbs are worn out so I’m done. I’ll have more on this blog and a special pre game blog tomorrow and of course the Evening News at 6. To all the staff at Global Regina, have fun at the Christmas party tonight!
