MONTREAL – The head of Montreal’s fire department, Serge Tremblay, announced today that he will be stepping down at the end of May. Tremblay has led the fire department for the last nine years. In recent weeks however, Tremblay has been under fire for his style of management. He’s been accused of ignoring bullying in the department, bullying that is believed to have led to the suicide of a white collar employee who worked in the prevention branch. Stephane Archambault committed suicide after apparently being repeatedly harrassed by the head of the prevention department and two other fellow employees.

In a press release issued by the city, Mayor Michael Applebaum thanked Tremblay for his service. “We want to acknowledge his thirty years of service as a firefighter,” said Applebaum. “We wish him a good retirement and thank him for his work. “
