Tenants of Surrey apartment building say they are being forced out

Tenants of a rundown apartment complex in Surrey are being evicted, after years of fighting with their landlord.

The Sahota Group, which owns Kwantlen Park Manor, says ongoing mold and structural issues led to the eviction notice.

But residents say they have known about the problem for years and the eviction is to rid the area of low-income tenants.

The Sahota were fined $115,000 for failing to maintain the site, but the province later agreed to waive the fine if they fixed the building and offered tenants a resettlement package.

But residents say the building remains in disrepair and those packages have never surfaced.

They are being asked to leave by the end of May.
