One of two men trapped after a freight train derailed in northern Manitoba Saturday night, has died, according to Arctic Gateway Group.
The derailment happened around 6:15 p.m. Saturday, when a bridge on the Hudson Bay Rail line gave out near Ponton, Man., according to the Thompson Fire Department.

Adrienne Burton with the Thompson Fire Department says one of the men trapped was freed Saturday, while the other man was rescued Sunday morning and airlifted to hospital in Winnipeg with serious injuries.
Sunday afternoon, Arctic Gateway Group confirmed one of its employees had been killed.
“Sadly, one of our employees working on the locomotive has been confirmed by authorities as deceased,” the company said in a press release.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those involved in the accident, and with our employees. “

The train that derailed had three locomotives and several dozen railcars, some of which were carrying liquefied petroleum, according to the company.
“At this time, based on information we have received, we believe that none of these railcars has been compromised,” the statement read.
“We have been advised that at this time there does not appear to be any significant environmental danger to nearby areas resulting from the derailment.”
Ponton is approximately 545 km northwest of Winnipeg.
