FREDERICTON – Government officials in New Brunswick say people living or working in flood-prone areas need to keep an eye on river levels as a result of steady rain and above freezing temperatures.
River Watch spokeswoman Nadine Caissie Long says people need to be on alert for the possibility of a sudden rise in water levels or movement of ice.
She says an ice jam near the community of Stanley has stabilized but officials are monitoring it.
That jam caused the Nashwaak River to spill its banks last month, forcing about 35 residents to evacuate their homes for a few days.
River Watch officials are also monitoring another ice jam downriver from Stanley at MacLaggan Bridge.
Caissie Long says crews will conduct a survey this week to determine how much snow is left to melt in the province’s forests.
