Defence Minister and Central Nova MP Peter MacKay and his wife Nazanin Afshin-Jam MacKay welcomed their first child early Monday morning in Ottawa.
“Welcome to the world Kian Alexander MacKay,” MacKay posted to his Twitter and Facebook accounts. “Thanks to everyone for their thoughts, prayers and support. We are overjoyed with our baby boy.”
Their baby was born at 4:52 a.m., weighing eight pounds, two ounces.
Afshin-Jam MacKay is an Iranian-Canadian model, singer, and human rights activist.
The couple were married in a private civil ceremony in 2012 at a seaside chapel in Mexico.
