Cadets direct traffic at McPhillips Street and Jefferson Avenue after a power outage on Sunday.

WINNIPEG – Power was out again early Monday morning for thousands of residents in north Winnipeg.

The outage from just after midnight until about 3 a.m. was caused by damage from a hydro pole fire that also was behind a 12-hour outage starting at about 12:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday.

The power was out from Inkster Boulevard to Leila Avenue between McPhillips Street and the Red River, and at some homes across the river in East Kildonan.

Two hydro pole fires early Sunday caused the outages. Damage to the poles was worse than expected and further repairs were needed, so the power was turned off again, Manitoba Hydro said.
