Fatal Kelowna motorcycle crash results in charges

It was almost exactly a year ago when a crash at a busy Kelowna intersection claimed the life of a motorcyclist. Now the driver who allegedly caused the crash has been charged.

On March 20 last year, a man and his wife riding their motorcycle were stopped at a red light at the intersection of Harvey Avenue and Cooper Road.

Their bike was hit from behind by a black Jeep.

The two riders were catapulted into the vehicle in front of them.

Jules Kreeft, 59, died from his injuries, while his wife was seriously injured.

Police at the scene said there were witness reports the Jeep driver was using a cell phone when he hit the motorcycle.

Mark Sameer Batraki, 38, of Kelowna has now been charged with ‘driving without due care and attention’.

Batraki makes his first court appearance in mid-April.
