A byelection will be held on Sept. 12, to fill the vacant Regina Northeast seat.
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe made the announcement Thursday morning and said voters in that area will have the chance to decide who will best represent them on issues such as managing the economy and standing up for Saskatchewan’s fight against a federal carbon tax.

“I expect a strongly contested by-election and look forward to the campaign,” Moe said.
Former Sask. Party MLA and cabinet minister Kevin Doherty held the seat before leaving politics last fall, taking a job in Alberta with a consulting firm.
Saskatchewan Party candidate Gary Grewal, NDP candidate Yens Pedersen, Progressive Conservative candidate Ken Grey and Green Party candidate Jessica
Schroeder are in the running for the position.
