The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) said they had to Taser a 31-year-old man, who was in custody, after he attempted to disarm an officer of his gun.
Officers were transferring the man from his cell to a separate area of the SPS detention centre for an appearance with a justice of the peace at around 12 a.m. CT on Aug. 6.
During the transfer, police said the man lunged at an officer and attempted to take his gun. A brief altercation ensued and a second officer successfully used a conducted energy weapon (CEW).
The man was then placed back in handcuffs. He was taken to hospital as a precaution.
No injuries were reported.
The man is now facing a charge of assaulting an officer, and attempting to disarm an officer.
SPS said the CEW deployment will be reviewed.
