The Oliver Fire Department was busy Saturday evening after a fire sparked west of town on Oliver Mountain.
Crews responded to the fire around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and were on site until around 11:00 p.m. working on the blaze with the help of the B.C. Wildfire Service.
As of Sunday morning, the 3.5-hectare fire was essentially extinguished but crews are expected to return again to check for hot spots.

There are conflicting reports on the cause of the fire. Oliver’s fire chief said he was told by the Wildfire Service the blaze is believed to be human-caused.
The Wildfire Service’s website, however, said the suspected cause is lightning.
The blaze did not threaten homes. The only structure in the vicinity was a cell tower which was not damaged.
