Billy Ray Cyrus cancels Big Valley Jamboree performance due to plane problems

It appears Billy Ray Cyrus may have shattered some of his fan’s achy breaky hearts, because the country music singer has had to cancel his Big Valley Jamboree performance at the last minute.

Cyrus was one of the acts scheduled for the opening day of the festival southeast of Edmonton, however he announced on Friday afternoon he would not be performing due to mechanical issues with his flight.

“We have talked to Billy Ray and he is absolutely devastated that he could not make the show this afternoon, as it is the first performance he has ever cancelled,” the music festival tweeted shortly before 2:30 p.m.

Earlier in the day, Cyrus tweeted about being excited to head to the Alberta festival.

Organizers announced at the festival that Cyrus’ plane took off from Burbank, Cali. but shortly into the flight it experienced problems and they had to turn around.

Big Valley Jamboree said despite the mechanical issues, Cyrus’ plane landed safely but couldn’t make it to Alberta. It also said Billy Ray’s Band had arrived at the festival site near Camrose, “along with his good friend Derek Jones who is going to fill in for him.”

As a result, the main stage line up was updated as follows:

  • Derek Jones w/ Billy Ray Cryus’ Band: 3:30 – 4:00 p.m.
  • Carolyn Dawn Johnson: 4:30 – 6:00 p.m.
  • Paul Brandt: 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. (No change)
  • Thomas Rhett: 9:00 – 10:30 p.m. (No change)

Cyrus is best known for his number one single “Achy Breaky Heart,” and is also the father of singer and actress Miley Cyrus.

The 26th edition of the country music festival will also feature Florida Georgia Line, Jess Moskaluke, Alabama, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Brett Eldredge, Aaron Goodvin and Danny Hooper, among others.

This year’s festival runs from Aug. 2 to 5.
