U.S. cyclist sent to hospital with serious injuries after crashing in Cape Breton

A man from Florida who was cycling in Cape Breton on Thursday has been sent to hospital with serious injuries after going over a steep embankment.

In a news release Friday afternoon, Nova Scotia RCMP said the crash happened around noon in Victoria County’s White Point.

Police believe the cyclist lost control of his bicycle along White Point Road, which is a steep hill with several curves.

The 47-year-old victim was cycling in a tour group when he became separated from the group, according police.

He was found by the group with serious injuries.

Police say he was transported to hospital in Sydney, then airlifted to hospital in Halifax for further treatment.
