Bellingham Airport overrun with passengers during Spring Break and Easter

Bellingham Airport is jammed with cars these days.

Officials have been forced to open overflow lots because of Spring Break.

The airport manager says it’s been so busy on some days, all 2,800 parking spaces are taken with cars with Canadian and American licence plates. They haven’t been this busy since Christmas time.

The Easter long weekend is also coming up, and travelers have found flights from Bellingham can be significantly cheaper than ones leaving from Vancouver International Airport.

Only about one-third of the passengers coming through the airport are from the immediate area.

Officials say they can handle the traffic and expect the busyness to die down soon.

The airport is investing almost 40-million dollars to triple the size of the terminal. That is expected to be finished by February 2014.
