Hamilton Bulldogs’ John Gruden to join New York Islanders coaching staff

Hamilton Bulldogs head coach John Gruden is bound for the NHL.

On Tuesday, the New York Islanders announced Gruden has been named the team’s assistant coach. The Islanders did not say when Gruden will start in the role.

Gruden served as head coach for the Hamilton Bulldogs for two seasons and led the team to its OHL victory this year.

Bulldogs President and General Manager Steve Staios said Gruden is leaving the team with a “winning foundation.”

“In his role as head coach of the Hamilton Bulldogs, John was instrumental in changing culture, developing athletes and ultimately winning a championship for our city,” he said in a statement.

“We sincerely appreciate his commitment to our team, the Hamilton community and thank his family for his time and sacrifice. ”
