EDMONTON – The City of Edmonton is listed as a seven on Alberta Environment’s Air Quality Health Index Wednesday, which indicates high risk.
The index, posted on the government of Alberta’s Environment and Sustainable Resource Development website, ranks the air quality in Edmonton seven during the day Wednesday, six overnight and seven again on Thursday.

When the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) is at a seven, or “high risk” level, Alberta Environment advises people to reduce or reschedule strenuous outdoor activities. It says “children and the elderly should also take it easy.”
Alberta Environment suggests everyone – even if they’re not part of a specified at-risk population – should try to avoid strenuous activities outside if symptoms like coughing and throat irritation present themselves.
Each individual reacts differently to air pollution, but children, the elderly, and those with diabetes, heart or lung disease are most sensitive to the adverse health effects.
