11-year sentence for Calgary man who killed girlfriend in 2015

A Calgary man has been sentenced to 11 years in prison following the death of his girlfriend more than three years ago.

Luke Anthony Macleod was originally charged with second-degree murder in the death of Sheri Carpen.

The 31-year-old’s body was found in a home on Pine Tree Bay N.E. in March 2015.

At the time, investigators said Macleod claimed his girlfriend died by as a result of a suicide.

Nearly eight months later, he was charged in her death.

Macleod, 34, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in April.

In court on Tuesday, the 34-year-old was sentenced to 11 years behind bars. He was given credit for 15 days of pre-trial custody.
