Police release identity of man, 25, fatally shot in North York on Sunday

Toronto police have released the identity of a man fatally shot in North York over the weekend.

Officers were called to the area of Driftwood Avenue and Jane Street around 3:30 a.m. Sunday with reports of a shooting.

Paramedics arrived on scene where a man, identified as 25-year-old Karim Hirani, was pronounced dead.

Police said the victim suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body.

Authorities said a male suspect was seen leaving the area. He is described as in his 20s, wearing a hood sweater and dark pants.

Toronto police say that the homicide unit has now taken over the investigation.
