Premier Brian Gallant was in rural New Brunswick Saturday for a funding announcement, which to many felt like more of a re-announcement.
“This is something that’s all about the budget that was introduced in January of this year and we’re very pleased to be making increased investments in health care and in education every single year since we’ve become the government,” explained Brian Gallant.

With an provincial election on the horizon, similar re-announcements have come in bunches as of late. Nonetheless, Horizon Health Network welcomed the cash with open arms.
Karen McGrath, the CEO of Horizon Health Network, says the funding will allow for the the addition of another shift to the hemo-dialysis unit at the Charlotte County Hospital. McGrath says second nurse practitioner will also join the team at the wellness centre in the coming weeks.
”We can actually double up the number of people we were actually offering dialysis for because we have a shift on Saturday, so some people come Monday, Wednesday and Friday, some people come Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday,” said McGrath.

The hospital has one accomplishment not many can tout: there’s not one single person on a wait list for dialysis.
The centre is close to hiring that nurse practitioner, who will have responsibilities for outreach to communities in the area.
Local MLA John Armes says that’s something that’s needed.
“We’re a friendly community and we work together to get things accomplished, and it’s no different when it comes to important aspects of society like health care. This hospital is the foundation and certainly the heartbeat and the pulse of health care in Charlotte County and St. Stephen,” said Armes.

Health care is one of the main issues Gallant will be pushing as the provinces moves closer to the fall elections.
