The search is on for a grey Dodge Nitro SUV after a Burnaby RCMP officer was injured in a hit-and-run on Wednesday morning.
Burnaby RCMP said an officer on foot tried to stop a vehicle in the area of Willingdon Avenue and Parker Street around 10 a.m. as the driver appeared to be using an electronic device.
The officer signalled for the driver to pull over, but the SUV struck the officer and left the scene. The suspect vehicle was last seen heading south on Willingdon Avenue.
Witness Rocky Phibbs ran to the officer’s side to help them while his partner called 911.
RCMP said the officer is in hospital with a broken arm.
The driver of the grey Dodge Nitro is described as a South Asian man with a heavy build and shaved head. He was wearing a white T-shirt, grey sweatpants and has a tattoo on his left arm.
