Montreal firefighters were able to rescue two window-washers who required assistance early Tuesday afternoon in the downtown core.

The pair of workers were stuck on the side of the 14th floor of the high-rise building at the intersection of Peel and Sherbrooke streets.

Benoit Martel, the chief of operators for the city’s fire department, said specially trained firefighters descended the building from the roof using cables to access the workers and bring them back up to safety.

He said about 30 firefighters were at the scene. It took about 75 minutes to rescue the two men after a mechanical break left them stranded around 2 p.m.
