Lethbridge Community Gearing Up to Help the Homeless

The City of Lethbridge along with several organizations and societies from around the city are coming together in attempt to end homelessness.

Project Connect is a one day event that will be held on April 6th this year at the Fritz Sick Memorial Gym.

The event is aimed to get people connected with community agencies and services that can support their journey to permanent housing, and it is working.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“We are seeing a decrease in shelter occupancy says Diane Randell with the city, “and a decrease in street counts as well”

Ken Kissick, the director at Streets Alive Mission calls the event a “one stop shop” where people are able to come and access critical services.

Services like housing referral, counseling, immigration, addictions, healthcare as well as lunch and a haircut are provided and make a world of difference.

“We see their spirits are risen and they feel better” says Tiffany Housworth with the Lethbridge Police Service,  “when you feel better about yourself, your more likely to be involved in things that are healthy for you and the rest of the community”

The Lions Club’s donation covers the cost of the event which is free to all participants to attend.

Community members can get involved by donating gently worn shoes and clothing, personal items and toiletries to the Salvation Army by April 3rd.
