The Nova Scotia government has awarded a contract to Architecture49, to prepare a facility plan for a cultural hub along Halifax’s waterfront.

The plan would include a new Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University (NSCAD), and public common space.
The contract was awarded on Tuesday. The total cost of the tender is $246,524.00.
“The proposed cultural hub will help position Nova Scotia as a world leader in the visual arts, educate the province’s creative industries leaders and create new public space to celebrate, and showcase, our arts and culture,” the province said in a press release Tuesday.

The government previously issued a request for proposals to develop a detailed project proposal. That work included programming and curatorial development, development of costing, and planning of public space requirements through public consultation.
The province says resident and stakeholders — including artists, Indigenous communities, arts and cultural organizations, NSCAD staff, faculty and students — will have an opportunity over the next month to help shape a vision for the proposed cultural hub via surveys and in-person sessions.
