Higher gas prices were a driving factor for an increase in Saskatchewan’s annual inflation rate.
Statistics Canada reported Friday the consumer price index for May in the province was 3.0 per cent, up from 2.5 per cent from April.
That is the highest annual inflation rate among the provinces for the month.

Costs increased in seven of the eight major components tracked by Statistics Canada, led by a 28.8 per cent yearly increase in the cost of gasoline.
Excluding gas, the annual inflation rate was 2.0 per cent.
The only decrease was in the cost of food, which was down 0.1 percentage points year-over-year, led by a drop in the cost of fresh vegetables and meat.
The national inflation rate was 2.2 per cent.
