Bob Hall seeks to return to Peterborough city council

Former Peterborough city councillor Bob Hall is looking to return to the council chambers.

On Wednesday, Hall announced his intentions to seek the seat in Otonabee Ward. Hall served as Northcrest Ward councillor for 17 years before he decided to not seek re-election in 2014 and instead sought to be the federal Liberal candidate for Peterborough-Kawartha.

Hall, who is currently the chairman of the Peterborough Police Services Board, says he’s ready to meet the requests of residents, such as job creation, maintaining roads and providing value for their tax dollars.

“When we pay our taxes, we expect our government to support our neighbourhoods, maintain our roads, and encourage job creation,” Hall said in a release.

“We have an outstanding community thanks to the efforts of residents, community groups and businesses of our City. Their efforts should be better reflected through our city council.”

The teacher at Kenner Collegiate and Intermediate School and community volunteer says he’s ready to focus on serving the residents in the city’s south end.

“It was a privilege to represent the residents of the north end for almost 20 years,” Hall said. “I have been teaching and volunteering with students in the south end for a decade. I’m asking residents and families in these neighbourhoods to let me serve them in a different way on council.”

Hall outlined his active community involvement, including volunteering with the Kinsmen Club and serving as a board member with the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority, the Peterborough Public Library, the Fairhaven longterm care facility, the Council For Persons with Disabilities, the Canadian Canoe Museum, and the Art Gallery of Peterborough.

During his previous terms on city council, Hall served as the chairman of council’s Committee of the Whole and Planning committees.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to engage with residents over the next several months through the campaign,” said Hall, a father of two whose children are attending medical and law schools. “Their priorities need to be the priorities of our city.”

Hall also sought the Peterborough-Kawartha federal Liberal nomination in May 2015 but lost to Maryam Monsef by just 17 votes following a recount. Monsef went on to win the riding in the fall federal election.

Other candidates seeking a seat in Otonabee Ward include Kim Zippel, Ryan Wauby, Brock Grills and current councillor Lesley Parnell.
