A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with a stabbing death at a west Edmonton suite over the weekend.
Nathan Joshua Piche, of Edmonton, was arrested during a vehicle stop near Gibbons, Alta., the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) said on Thursday evening.
According to police, officers were called to a suite in the area of 115 Avenue and 124 Street after a “reported disturbance” at around 11 p.m. on Sunday.
A 36-year-old man was found with significant injuries. Police performed first aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The man’s death was being investigated as suspicious but was declared a homicide after an autopsy completed on Wednesday determined a stab wound to be the cause of death.
Police say they will not reveal the name of the victim because “it does not serve an investigative purpose and the EPS has a duty to protect the privacy rights of the victims and their families.”
The man’s death is Edmonton’s 15th homicide of 2018.
