Police were asking residents to stay away from the area bordered by Victoria Drive to the north, Coast Meridian Road to the west and Cedar Drive to the east after they received reports of shots fired early Wednesday morning.

It turns out it was someone setting off fireworks.

“At about 4:30 in the morning we got multiple calls from people in Port Coquitlam who were concerned about what they thought they heard were a bunch of shots from a long gun,” Cpl. Mike McLaughlin with Coquitlam RCMP. “Naturally, this is a priority call for us.  Ever since, the police were in the area, in force, making sure the area was safe.”
