Ottawa police investigating after woman dies in assault

Ottawa police say a 59-year-old woman has died after she was found severely beaten inside a building on the 100 block of Laurier Avenue Thursday.

Police said the woman, who has been identified as Elisabeth Salm, was found with life-threatening injuries at around 1 p.m. Officers said she was rushed to hospital where she later died.

Police said the victim is an employee of the Christian Science Reading Centre at 141 Laurier Ave West where the assault took place.

“Investigators are following up on all information and there is no suspect in custody at this time,” said Insp. Jamie Dunlop with specialized investigations of the criminal investigations directorate.

“Investigators are also seeking to speak to anyone with information about people who may have had interaction with the victim on May 24 specifically between 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.”

According to police, the major crimes unit is investigating the incident as an aggravated assault and are asking anyone with information to call 613-236-1222, ext. 5493.

As of Friday morning, no suspects have been arrested.
