It’s a Small World After all………………………………(2)

“Not a bad place to get stuck” wrote Tara Nelson our London Bureau Chief to me on my Facebook page.

Only 45 minutes earlier I had posted a rant about the Airline that had chosen to cancel my Flight from Paris to London so I could get home to Vancouver.

“Sah! We will definitelyt NOT fly today!” said the heavily accented Operator from the Airline’s Asian based Call Center…. I was told an hour previously.

There were cold temperatures and snow in England and France! Not very cold – 5 C not a lot of snow really by Canadian Standards. Even Vancouverites would’ve shrugged it off by the afternoon in pursuit of their favourite coffee shop!

But here CALAMITY! No flights – No Eurostar Train and HUGE “bouchon” (meaning) Traffic Jams on the highways in and out of Paris. Some 25 km in length, you have to know when to stay put…..

Alas I booked the next available Flight ~ Monday! I was stuck with my fiancee’s French Family for 5 more days.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Now they are lovely people who no longer laugh when I speak French. In fact her Father now smiles kindly at me when they tell the story (yet again) of my first Visit to France when I mistakenly professed my Love for him and not her…..

But my belly was stuffed over Christmas and New Years with incredibly good French Food and I was anxious to start my 2010 Resoloution of more exercise back home…….

Maybe I had indigestion or home sickness, perhaps it was both.

I plunged myself on the sofa to watch the news with the Family in French.

At Global TV I am an ENG Editor I edit the stories that you see on our Newscast. So I wanted to keep up with the day’s events.

Millions of French viewers every night invite Laurence Ferrari into their Living Rooms. She coyly purrs the words in the best Parisian French to attentive Viewers. Apparently even French men watch the news…..

The results of the French downhill skiers who had qualified to make the Trip to the Olympics in Whistler was not enough to keep my Interest.

My attention wandered to my trusty “Apple-berry” Device (that surely protected me from boredom like Tonto had protected the Lone Ranger from bad guys).

It also had kept me in touch with the rest of my World.

I scanned the headlines and Downloaded the Vodcast of Global BC in the time it takes to make an French Espresso.

Ping! Went my phone I settled in to watch our News so far from Home as Ms Ferrarri flirted with her viewers in the background.

Ok Chris Gailus with his “betcha by golly Wow delivery and charm” is no Laurence Ferrari. But he is the kind of guy who you could play basketball with and go for a few beers with after……

Maybe – It IS a small world after all!
