The excitement has been building for days. The CFL free agency window is about to open. Problem is that its dark outside when the shutters were opened and the sliding pain raised. At what point does the CFL and its TV partners get together and move the opening of free agency from 12:01am est to a reasonable hour.
I get that legally that is when the contracts expire, but I really can’t see there being an issue with having players have to wait a mere 12 hours to latch on with a new team? So there is a window of 12 hours out there that they can’t physically sign…however deals could be worked on. For all the great things that the CFL has done in promoting its game in the last number of years, this is one spot that they are still missing the boat on. Maybe its becuase it leaves so damn early.
The League and its tv partner do a special for the draft now. I think its a great show, and great idea and puts the CFL in the minds of people when its not on the field. That’s good stuff. Taking the free agency period and doing a 2 hour show on it with the chance of breaking a couple of early signings would also be good stuff. Just sayin.
If the current tv partner doesn’t want to do it, ship it my way. I’d be more than happy to host it. In fact that’s a canoe I’d paddle!
