B.C. municipal election 2018: Jumbo Glacier results

Candidates

There is currently no development nor population at Jumbo resort due to legal issues, however the resort municipality does have a mayor and two councillors who were appointed by the previous BC Liberal government.

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing is responsible for appointing those positions, and says it will do so again.

Greg Deck is currently the mayor of Jumbo, with Nancy Hugunin and Stephen Ostrander sitting as the two councillors.

Jumbo Glacier mountain resort municipality is located between Areas F and G of the Regional District of Central Kootenay.

History

Jumbo Glacier mountain resort municipality has existed since November 2012, when the provincial government incorporated it and appointed a three-member municipal council and corporate officer.

But its history dates back to 1991, when a proposal was submitted to the provincial government for a ski resort to be located at Jumbo Mountain and Jumbo Glacier.

Three years prior, the Regional District of East Kootenay had requested that Jumbo have its own municipality.

A master plan for the resort was not approved until March 2012.

The three-member municipal council is likely to be re-appointed in the October municipal elections.
