Good Friday and Easter Sunday in Toronto: What’s open and closed

Here’s a roundup of what you can expect as Toronto heads into a long weekend.

What’s open

  • CF Toronto Eaton Centre and Toronto Premium Outlets in Halton Hills are open all weekend long. Check their websites for hours. Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket is open Friday but closed Sunday
  • Tourist attractions such as the CN Tower, Toronto Zoo, Hockey Hall of Fame, Casa Loma, Ripley’s Aquarium, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Royal Ontario Museum, Legoland and the Ontario Science Centre are open throughout the long weekend
  • Toronto bars, restaurants, small retail locations and gas stations can stay open, as per the city’s holiday shopping bylaw. As well, retail businesses in designated tourist areas (Yorkville, downtown Yonge, Queen’s Quay West and the Distillery District) also have the option to stay open
  • Allen Gardens and Centennial Park Conservatories are open for free spring flower shows
  • Regular daytime bin collection is going ahead, but some other city waste management services are impacted

What’s closed

  • Government offices and city hall are closed Friday and Monday
  • Canada Post mail collection and delivery is cancelled on both Friday and Monday
  • Most malls, banks and retail, including the LCBO and Beer Stores, are closed Friday and Sunday
  • Toronto Public Library Branches are closed on Friday, Sunday and Monday

Getting Around

Friday 

  • GO Transit is operating on a Sunday schedule; the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is operating on holiday service.
  • 505 Dundas and 506 Carlton streetcars are diverting from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. between Ossington and Bathurst due to the Good Friday Procession.

Sunday

  • Various bus routes, including 64 Main, 92 Woodbine South, 110C Islington South and 501 Queen are being re-directed due to parades.
  • Several road closures are in effect due to Toronto Beaches Lions Club Easter Parade. From 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Queen Street East will be closed between Fallingbrook Road and Woodbine Avenue. That afternoon, Woodbine Avenue will be also closed from Queen to Lake Shore Boulevard East. Lake Shore from Woodbine to Coxwell Avenue will be closed from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

All weekend

  • Line 1 subway service is cancelled between Finch West and Wilson stations from Friday to Sunday due to signal upgrades. Shuttle buses will run between the stations.
