Partial roof collapse at Saskatoon strip mall

SASKATOON – Emergency services were called to a roof collapse at a local strip mall just before noon on Saturday.

Around 11:45 a.m. fire crews found one of the businesses located in the mall at 3730 Diefenbaker Drive suffered extensive damage due to a partial roof collapse.

No one was inside at the time.

The heavy urban search and rescue team was called in to shore up the roof to prevent further damage.

Fire officials are pointing to the amount of snow bearing down on the roof as the cause of the collapse.

The remaining businesses in the strip mall were evacuated as a safety precaution. They will be closed until a structural assessment is completed and the building deemed safe for re-entry.
