Police said the remains were discovered in the area of Turner Road, just outside St. Thomas, on Mar. 6.

An investigation was launched, and a post-mortem exam conducted two days later determined foul play was not suspected.

On Wednesday, police said a forensic examination had identified the remains to be those of Kevin Savoie, 52, of St. Thomas. Savoie had been reported missing by that city’s police service in September 2016.

In a media release at the time of Savoie’s disappearance, St. Thomas police said Savoie had been last seen at his Talbot Street residence on Sept. 9.

“Anyone with knowledge of Kevin Savoie is asked to contact Detective Constable Brian Watson of the Elgin County OPP Crime Unit at 519-631-2920,” said provincial police in a statement.

Those with information can also contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
