There seems to be no end in sight to rising gas prices in Metro Vancouver.
They’re going up again Tuesday night to $1.50 a litre, and by Sunday, prices are expected to top $1.54 a litre according to GasBuddy.com’s Dan McTeague.
“This has to be a wake-up call for our legislators in Victoria — the taxes you’re paying on fuel cannot be ignored,” he said.
“There’s no jurisdiction in North America that is paying these prices, and it’s why Vancouver continues to have the highest prices for fuel in the Western Hemisphere.”
McTeague says gassing up in Blaine, Wash., over Metro Vancouver will save the average motorist about $2,000 a year.
“I think we’ve reached a tipping point where people are realizing that a lack of refineries relying on a strained and congested pipeline, the Trans Mountain, and being forced to bring in our gas from the U.S. is not viable.”
McTeague says, by comparison, drivers in Los Angeles are paying $3.42 a gallon while Vancouver is paying $5.63 a U.S. gallon.
