A 5-year-old Calgary boy seen wearing a homemade Calgary Flames “jersey” is getting a much-needed upgrade.
Eton Miles was at the mall with his family when someone saw the committed fan wearing his homemade Monahan jersey and snapped a photo.
The photo was sent to Calgary Flames TV host and producer Kristin Hallett who embarked on a social media search to find the boy.
“I just thought it was adorable… my job is to connect people in the community with the players,” Hallett said.
The post went viral, being shared thousands of times on social media, which led to finding the boy two days later.
With the help of the Calgary Flames, Eton and his four brothers got a personal meet-and-greet with Sean Monahan and other Flames players over the weekend.
As well, Eton got to trade in the hand-me-down makeshift jersey in for the real one, hand delivered by the centre himself.
“It’s so rewarding every once in a while to have a die-hard Flames fan… These kids will remember it every day. It makes my heart burst.”
As for his old hand-me-down Flames jersey, Eton plans to keep it.
