EDMONTON- Work on the north side of the Jasper Avenue streetscape project is nearly complete.

The first section of new sidewalks, along 102nd Street north of Jasper Avenue, will open to the public Friday.

On Monday, the next section of new sidewalks, on the north side of Jasper Avenue between 101st Street and 102nd Street, will reopen.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The city says all of the sidewalks along the north side of the avenue, between 100th Street and 102nd Street, will be open to pedestrians by the end of March.

The walks have been closed since spring 2012 as part of the construction for the Jasper Avenue streetscape project.

Work on the north side of Jasper Avenue is nearly finished, and crews will be switching to the south side of the Avenue in early April. At that time, vehicle traffic will be moved to the newly paved north side, with one lane of traffic open in each direction from April to October.
