Canadian freestyle skier India Sherret took a hard crash during the women’s ski cross competition at the 2018 Winter Olympics, becoming the second Canadian to be removed from the course on a stretcher.
The 21-year-old fell hard during the preliminary heats after she lost control off a jump. Sherret was in second place in her heat when her left ski appeared to tail off in the air as the skier came off a jump.
Sherret landed on the back of her skis and appeared to have control over herself until she approached a second jump, with her weight on the back of her skis, causing her to awkwardly roll over the jump, crashing hard on the course.
The Cranbrook, B.C. native was on the ground for several minutes before being skied off the course on a stretcher.
The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) said Sherret was taken to hospital in stable condition.

“Ski Cross athlete India Sherret crashed in her 1/8 final heat. She was taken to hospital where she is being assessed. She is in stable condition,” the COC said in a statement. “Team Canada’s doctors will continue to assess her condition.”
Sherret’s hard crash came just days after fellow Canadian Chris Del Bosco was in a horrific crash during the men’s competition. The 35-year-old went airborne on the final jump, landing hard on his right side.
Del Bosco suffered four broken ribs, a bruised lung and a fractured pelvis as a result of the crash.
Sherret made her World Championship debut in 2017, advancing through to the quarter-finals. However, the skier crashed on a training run, suffering multiple sprains and bruises.
