An Edmonton man has been charged with uttering threats after police said threats were made against the federal government, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
An investigation began on Feb. 5 after the RCMP’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team received information about threats posted on social media.
The officers’ investigation led them to an address in Edmonton where a man was arrested on Feb. 15.
Robert Dale Kerr, 41, is charged with one count of uttering threats.
He was released from custody on a number of conditions, which include staying at least 500 metres away from any place where the prime minister would be present. Kerr is not allowed to leave Alberta, nor is he allowed to use any social media sites.
Kerr is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Edmonton on Thursday morning.
The RCMP warn that using social media to make threats against anyone will not be taken lightly.
