Steven Fletcher is going to take another run at federal politics.
He currently sits as an independent in the Manitoba legislature.
On Monday, Fletcher posted on his Facebook page that he will be seeking the Conservative federal nomination in the St.James-Assiniboia-Headlingley riding.
He previously held that federal riding in 2004 until he was defeated in 2015 and served in the cabinet of former Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Fletcher won a provincial seat in 2016, but was removed from caucus after he criticized the government over its decision to create an entity separate from Manitoba Hydro to promote energy efficiency.
When asked why he wanted to run for federal politics, Fletcher said
“I’m doing this to represent the people of Charleswood-St.James-Assinaboia. I had a very successful time as MP and the opportunity has risen to have that opportunity again.”
In his Facebook post, he said he will continue to sit as MLA for Assiniboia in the upcoming legislative session.
